Self-Love, Self-Care, Self-Respect iampeacemaker, July 30, 2023August 9, 2023 You are beautiful. Male or female, you were made in the image of God. Imperfect by design, creative, self-aware, peacemaking. You are unique, loved, and you try your hardest to do your best. I hope you love yourself as much as anyone else. If not, I hope that this blog post will help you learn to love yourself and respect yourself. Looking inward and admitting our weaknesses is critical, then we can build up from there. Let’s start. Everyone has some kind of toxic addiction. Whether it’s substance addiction, co-dependency, manipulative behavior, narcissism, gaslighting, resentment, anger, eating for boredom, television, gambling, overspending, blaming others, or blaming yourself, entertaining anything more than you need is toxic. Whatever it is you do, don’t beat yourself up. Forgive yourself for hurting yourself, seek reconciliation with others you have hurt, and forgive others for hurting you. Releasing your resentment is healthy, but still remove yourself from toxic situations and toxic relationships. You can’t rely on other people to make you feel happy, that just doesn’t work. Becoming happy in an inside job. Insight into your own mind-heart connection helps you to forgive all and appreciate beauty. Be mindful to make peace with yourself and others, if it is healthy to do so. Don’t stay in abusive relationships, staying in an abusive relationship for your own happiness is counter-productive. Take responsibility for your own choices. Never blame another for your own actions or choices. In order for other people to change, they would have to make that choice themselves, don’t take it upon yourself. That’s what co-dependency is, which is toxic for both parties. Yeshua (Jesus Christ) said: ‘Do not judge, and you will not be judged; because the judgements you give are the judgements you will get, and the standard you use will be the standard used for you.Why do you observe the spinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the great log in your own?And how dare you say to your brother, “Let me take that splinter out of your eye,” when look, there is a great log in your own”Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take the plinter out of your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:1-5 Addiction is a form of psychosocial disability or mental illness. So if you are prejudiced against mentally ill people, you believe you yourself are mentally healthy, but suffer an addiction of any sort, then you are fooling yourself. That said, this story is about how to heal your emotions and love yourself. To recover, the first step is admitting your faults. ‘Removing the log from your own eye’ is your launching pad to recovery. In your life, it is up to you to admit your own faults or errors in judgment. Then you can begin to recover from your own addictions or mental illnesses. To remove the blockage in your vision, first admit that the evidence in this universe points to intelligent design. There IS a higher power. There is relief in humbling yourself enough to place your trust in the Spirit of Love and Creativity who governs your heart-mind connection. Some know him as God, some know him as a Buddha or Lama, and some just call them Love and Light, they have many names. However, if you deny a higher power and think you are in charge of your own healing, you will end up failing, and you will resent yourself. Asking a higher spiritual power to help you recover from your addiction will help you love yourself. Being humble to this invisible higher power will actually illuminate your journey. By welcoming higher power, you will learn to respect yourself and others. Clearing your conscience and allowing this higher power of love and light to guide you to help others is what the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous are all about. The system has been proven to work for many millions who have worked this system. Going to a group or attending a group online is a good start. Sharing your story and hearing the stories of others will help you from feeling isolated as you try to improve your life. You will realize you are not alone in your insecurities when you receive the support of others in the group, and working the 12 Steps is a great way to recover from your weaknesses. Everybody has weaknesses. Knowing this, you have a way to forgive yourself. The I AM God helps you find success where you were once weak. It’s okay to admit your weakness. Faith in your higher power actually does work to compensate, you will be stronger, have faith in I AM’s work within and through you. To love ‘I AM’ is to love yourself. You will experience growth and healing when you do this. Recovery after trauma Anxiety and worry can be a result of trauma, addictions are usually a crutch of sorts after we are emotionally scarred by traumatic experiences. Life in this world tests us and challenges us to persevere. The apostle Paul shared this wisdom: We are subjected to every kind of hardship, but never distressed;we see no way out but we never despair;we are pursued but never cut off;knocked down, but still have some life in us; 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 No hardship is permanent, so be patient, and find faith in your recovery. Learning and patience will help you through. HOPE = Hold On Pain Ends. These things last forever: Faith, hope, and love, the three of them; and the greatest of them is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 If you choose to fight faith, hope, and love, you are effectively stunting your own growth. These things are real, and they are the only things that last forever. Having these three things are key in any kind of recovery. Faith means you believe in something that you can not (yet) see. Hope means knowing that, despite your current condition, things will get better. Love is a reason to live. Love your higher power, love yourself, love your neighbors, love your enemies, love your surroundings; give of your own means to help those you care about, and so be at One with the Universe. Looking in the mirror and winking at yourself helps too. Smile and say, “I love you” to yourself. You are worthy. Perfect peace within. I believe in you. Light. If you wouldn’t follow yourself, why would anyone else follow you? Be the example you need. “Peace Maker” is my Indigenous Spirit name, my other Spirit name is Elainia, which means, “Land of Light”.
